Performances of Bax’s “Christmas Eve” scheduled in Paris and Poznań this December
Bax’s tone poem Christmas Eve (1912, revised 1921) is receiving performances by orchestras in France and Poland this December. The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France will be playing the work in the Auditorium Maison de la radio in Paris on Friday December 16, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. The Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing “Christmas Eve” the next evening at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. That concert takes place at 6:00 p.m. Both concerts feature Christmas music including Victor Hely-Hutchinson’s “A Carol Symphony.” Bax’s “Christmas Eve” has been recorded only once and is available on Chandos with the London Philharmonic conducted by Bryden Thomson. Both the Paris and Poznań performances will use Bax’s 1921 revision of “Christmas Eve.”
