Bax’s Cello Concerto and early Variations recorded by Dutton
Cellist Lionel Handy and conductor Martin Yates were in Glasgow in late August recording Bax’s Cello Concerto and the early Variations for Orchestra for the Dutton Label. The orchestra was the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The recording of the Variations will be a premier and it follows up on a concert performance given by Yates and the BBC Concert Orchestra early this year. Lionel Handy’s recording of the Cello Concerto is the first since Raphael Wallfish gave its premier recording in the late 1980s. Also included on this disc will be the premiere recording of the Cello Concerto by Stanley Bate.
